the entrants

Designer: Martin Linning
Item: Ring
Name of piece: Cascade
Description of piece: Designed and created with the latest CAD/CAM technology, the seven lines of pave set diamonds form an oscillating pattern on the band that wraps snugly round the right middle finger before curving back across the hand to form a graceful arch.
Motivation: Cascade was envisioned as a sweeping single brushstroke of rippling diamonds gracefully draped across the entire hand. I wanted to create a show stopping piece of ‘red carpet’ jewellery that provides the wearer with a feeling of complete luxury and elegance.

Designer: Vanessa Kennedy and Gemma Bannerman
Item: Ring
Name of piece: Frozen
Description of piece: 18-carat white gold ring featuring a 5.08-carat Asscher cut aquamarine centre stone with trapezoid cut diamond side stones. The swirling under rail is set with 24 round brilliant cut diamonds.
Motivation: Inspired by the current popular movie of the same name, Frozen, features an aquamarine with its faceted clean lines and colour evocative of the water featured in the film. Two crisp white diamonds shoulder aqua as does the snow to the water’s edge. With the elaborate design under the setting mimicking the water fountains frozen in time. All encased in the coolness of highly polished 18-carat white gold.

Designer: Armad Bahar
Item: Ring
Name of piece: Wireframe
Description of piece: Signet style ring constructed completely with wires as the supporting structure. Inverted amethysts tapering up the shank with diamonds set on top. Custom cut centre amethyst braced with 18-carat yellow gold bars laser welded to the shank of the ring using precision guide holes made via CAD.
Motivation: My motivation was CAD itself. The contour and wires the piece is composed of are the basis for creating a 3D model and it’s what a draftsman sees daily. My aim was to highlight the limitless possibilities of CAM and 3D printing by displaying the precision, symmetry and seamless joins that is only achievable using this technology. These techniques for manufacturing have allowed us to survive and thrive in this competitive industry as a small business.
