The Kate Spade watch collection, which was launched internationally in 2012, includes six styles – the Metro, Carlyle, Carlyle Strap, Gramercy, Seaport and the Carousel.
The timepieces incorporate signature Kate Spade design details such as polka dots, three-dimensional bows, and colourful watchbands and faces, as well as materials including rose-gold plated metal, mother of pearl, enamel and black patent leather.
Designa Accessories general manager Justin Veil said he was excited about the brand’s prospects in the local market.
“Kate Spade New York timepieces fits perfectly into Designa’s brand portfolio adding strength to our fashion offer,” he said. “It is a brand with new personality, spirit and style which no other brand offers. Kate Spade will be well received in Australia as the brand awareness is very positive.”
In addition to its watch range, the US company is also well known for its jewellery, clothing, handbags and fashion accessories. Although the brand’s other products have been sold in Australia for some time – both through retailers and its first Australian concept store, which opened at the Melbourne Emporium earlier this year – this will be the first time its watches have been sold locally.
Kate Spade is the latest acquisition in Designa’s continued expansion; in June this year, the Sydney-based supplier was also appointed as the Australian and New Zealand distributor for Danish jewellery brand Trollbeads.
Other watch brands distributed by Designa include Guess, GC, Mark Ecko, Maxum, Nautica and Timex, and the business is also the local distributor of jewellery from Hot Diamonds and Guess.
Kate Spade New York was founded in 1993 and currently has more than 140 retail and outlet stores across the US, as well as more than 175 international stores.
