What are your strengths and unique selling points?
Our strength is our passion for supplying exceptional quality and service in casting, CAD and 3D printing. Being a family-run business ensures our customers receive personalised attention and an accessible approach. With a combined knowledge of more than 90 years in casting, our customers can be confident they are being looked after by the most experienced casting company in Australia. Our team of precious metal specialists and engineers use the most advanced casting and 3D printing technology to achieve the best results for our customers. Reliability, flexibility and experience in precious metals is critical when selecting a company for casting.

How long have you operated in the casting industry?
As a family-owned business we have been in the industry for more than 40 years, with no change of ownership.

Is all work cast in Australia, or is some partially done offshore?
We pride ourselves on the fact that all casting is completed in Australia, which means we are supporting our local industry.

We are hands-on at every stage in production to ensure our customers receive the highest quality product and service.

Can you cast all common alloys of silver, 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, platinum and palladium?
We cast silver, all gold alloys, palladium, platinum, brass and bronze five days a week. We also produce specially designed alloys for the engineering and scientific industries.

Do you offer Computer Aided Design (CAD) services?
Our services include a complete one-stop-shop for CAD and 3D printing – designing, printing, casting, moulds, finishing and setting. We guarantee the smoothest surface finish possible using DWS technology. Our CAD team is extremely skilled with each person qualified in jewellery.

Do you automatically rectify CAD problems, or charge separately?
We analyse each file to minimise printing and casting issues. There are a few basic rules to follow and if we notice problems our technicians will make adjustments at no charge to avoid delays. If the changes will impact the design we contact the customer to discuss the most efficient and economical solution, which may involve a fee.

What is your copyright policy regarding customer supplied CAD files?
A unique serial number is created for each design. Protecting the intellectual property of our client’s designs is extremely important, which is supported by a considerable investment in the security measures followed in the company.

Do you offer moulding services?
We supply standard, low shrink and non-shrink cold moulds. Alternatively, if the original design was created in CAD, customers can take advantage of our reduced fees for re-prints.

If so, who owns the final moulds?
Chemgold guarantees that moulds we produce will be used for each client’s exclusive use.

What is the typical turnaround time for creations if:
Customer supplied wax: Next day for all alloys – Monday to Friday.
Customer CAD for print or cast: 2 days from the time CAD file is received.
Customer sketch for CAD and cast: We guarantee that our customers will receive images in 3-4 days and castings 2-3 days after image approval.

Do you have a high success rate on casting volatile metals such as palladium?
We have high success rates with all alloys, especially palladium, and we have developed our own stable formula that negates any reactivity in the melting and casting process. We are specialists in platinum.

What is your recast policy if items are porous or faulty upon receipt?
Chemgold has a reputation for producing excellent quality. Our customers’ success is ours and if the product is faulty we make it a priority to re-produce it immediately.

If a customer provides wax, are there any materials not accepted for casting?
There are certain materials that won’t give satisfactory results i.e. some types of resin, plastics, woods and even waxes with different chemical compositions, which could be hazardous to the casting process. For these types of materials, rubber moulds are recommended.

Are there any Polymer/ABS/SLA materials you do not accept for casting?
There are certain types that are not suitable for burning out such as ceramic-based polymers. They cannot be burnt out because they are filled with nano particles of ceramics and calcium so you’ll be left with a very rough casting.

If so, can you make that determination prior to it going onto a tree and the casting failing?
Yes, but unfortunately not all the time, as we don’t always know the materials’ source and some materials are very similar in appearance.

Do you offer RTV for ‘suspect’ waxes/polymers to protect against failures?
Yes, a RTV is offered but it’s really not necessary as we produce everything internally. On the rare occasions that something goes wrong we can always redo the work immediately because we’re growing polymers and printing thermoplastics for our customers. If we think a customer’s hand-carved wax could have some inclusion, lemel or air bubbles, we’ll either repair it in-house or offer to make a non-destructive mould of their piece as a back-up precaution.
