The Sydney jewellery fair will celebrate Australia's young design talent through the On Show exhibition
The Sydney jewellery fair will celebrate Australia's young design talent through the On Show exhibition

Sydney jewellery fair to promote young designers

Emerging jewellery designers will soon be given an opportunity to showcase their talents and increase industry profiles as part of an upcoming exhibition.

The On Show exhibition will return to the 2015 International Jewellery Fair (IJF) in an effort to highlight the skills of young jewellery designers, manufacturing jewellers, apprentices and students.

The biennial feature, which is hosted by the Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA), was introduced in 2013.

JAA executive director Amanda Hunter said the exhibition provided a unique opportunity for up and coming industry talent. “We have many entry-level designers in the country who are looking for opportunities to gain exposure to the industry, and with over 1,000 retailers attending the three days of the trade fair, they will certainly achieve this,” she said.

In addition to exhibiting their skills and creativity to local and international retailers, participants will also have the opportunity to win the People’s Choice award, based on votes from fair attendees.

The JAA will be accepting expressions of interest for the exhibition until 30 June via www.jaa.com.au/onshow.

Furthermore, IJF organiser Expertise Events has announced that another young designer will be celebrated at the jewellery fair.

The Pinnacles of Ha Long Bay, an award-winning bangle designed by Elly Cernohorsky of Mandurah, Western Australia, will be on display at the trade show. The piece was recently awarded second place in the Emerging Jewellery Artist category – which recognises the skills of designers 21 years of age or younger – at the international Saul Bell Design Awards in New Mexico.

It was also exhibited at the recent JCK Las Vegas jewellery show.

The IJF will take place from 29 August to 31 August at the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.
