Hottest fashion watch trends for 2016

While a conservative approach to design seems to dominate the current fashion watch scene, a bevvy of other trends are also on offer. Here, local watch suppliers provide insight on what’s hot.
THE WATCHES TRENDING IN 2016

Bering

Bering continues its exploration of colour in both ion plating and ceramic manufacturing. Think elegant colour combinations of grey and rose gold, blue and rose gold, as well as blue ceramic. – Nils Rasmussen, BYMR

Christian Paul

Sydney-based Christian Paul takes influence from the international catwalks to create a minimalist fashion watch that combines classic styling with modern dial patterning of marble, grid and crystal. With brand ambassador and well-known fashionista Kate Waterhouse on board, this celebrity fashion brand has enjoyed amazing success in both the international and local market. – John Rose, West End Collection

Danish Design

The latest collection heralds black on black as a prominent design feature – black dial, black ion-plated cases and black leather straps with contrasting markers suited to both males and females. Black is the new black! – Ken Abbott, Timesupply

Henry London

One of the key trends we see is retro-inspired minimalist fashion. This is one of the reasons we have partnered with Henry London to launch the brand in Australia and New Zealand. The vintage-inspired look is true to the original with its double dome lens and curved hands. – Larry Porter, Bolt International

Huawei Watch

This season, Huawei is placing a strong focus on feminine styles and designs with the release of two new models. There are now 10 new watch faces for women, with features including rose gold and Swarovski zirconia. Combining style and technology is at the heart of the smartwatch, which is and will continue to be a focus point for Huawei. – Shayne Clulow, TNS Connect

Kapten and Son

The key fashion trend for Kapten and Son is still the mesh collection – it’s strong and is our most premium watch. We are also looking at creating on-trend colour ways to fit with the runways of Paris and Milan. Having said that, our watch can be created from scratch – completely customisable by the wearer – and I genuinely think this is our trend. The desire to create ‘your’ product is now.  – Chris Telley, Kapten and Son

Melbourne Watch Company

We’ve had a lot of success with marine-style watches, such as our popular Portsea range, and will continue to expand on that this year with new styles, including a dive watch called the Sorrento. We are the only brand (to our knowledge) that uses thick ceramic dials in our watches, so we hope to continue with that trend in our new models. – Sujain Krishnan, Melbourne Watch Company

Nero

The new Nero Steel Byron watch is one of a series shown in Europe for the first time. Designed in our studios in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, the colours/tones reflect the natural colours and textures of the traditional Australian ethos. A trend towards individual, high-quality design, away from the mass-produced generic brands, is becoming consistent worldwide. – Anna Shean, Carriage and Co

Pierre Cardin

The three major colours of yellow gold, rose gold and silver are still strong but I believe rose will slowly give way to more yellow gold. Watches are becoming thinner and perhaps not as oversized as we have seen over the last few years. – Jeanette Sceats, Instyle Watches

RM Williams

Designs for RM Williams watches remain true to the heritage of this iconic Australian brand. The Overlander men’s timepieces embrace earthy-toned leather straps and dials, symbolising the great Australian outback. – Steve der Bedrossian, Sams Group Australia

Tommy Hilfiger

A key fashion trend for Tommy men’s is a clean parchment dial/multi-eye face with distressed brown leather strap. For women it’s all about clear numbers on the dial with crystal around the case on a white leather strap.” – Martin Johnson, GDL Accessories
